Computer Workstations and Research Pod

General Workstations

The eight computer workstations on the south end of the first floor are for WashU/Medical Center students, faculty and staff only – a WashU Key username and password or BJC-net login is required for sign-in. The workstations feature standard office productivity and web browser applications.

Research Pod

The Research Pod is a cluster of customized Macs and PCs on the west side of the library’s first floor that provide free access to a core set of statistical, research, and presentation software packages. Visit the Research Pod page for more information.

Rules for Computer Use

We ask that patrons abide by the following rules when using research pod stations provided by Becker Library:

  • The research pods are intended to provide access to the specialized software. If you are not using one of these programs, please be considerate of others and use one of our other computers.
  • Please do not unplug the machinery. External monitors are available on the first, second, and fourth floors.
  • Treat the area with respect. If you eat or drink while using the computers, please clean up after yourself.
  • Please don’t attempt to reserve a machine while going to lunch, class, or lab. If you do, don’t be surprised if we remove your belongings.
  • Your data is your responsibility. For security reasons, these computers are reset regularly, resulting in the loss of all user-created data.

Extend Your Display Stations

Dedicated stations exist on the first, second, and fourth floors of the library where you can attach your device to an external monitor. HDMI cables are provided. Adaptors and privacy screens are available for checkout at the Information Services Desk.
